Evan Watson, KGW Investigative Reporter

Evan Watson is an award-winning investigative reporter with KGW.

PORTLAND, Ore. — Evan joined KGW in March of 2022. He shares a passion for impactful reporting and creative storytelling and is excited to join a strong investigative team.

He previously worked as an Investigative Reporter at 13News Now-WVEC in Norfolk, Virginia from 2018 to 2022. In Virginia, Evan covered major stories including the state’s unemployment crisis during the COVID-19 pandemic, the police shooting of Andrew Brown Jr., and the politicization of ‘Critical Race Theory’ leading to impacts on the teaching of race and history in public schools.

Evan has covered the events and visits of multiple Presidents, Vice Presidents, and Governors. He’s reported throughout multiple hurricanes, covered high-profile court cases, and prides himself on fact-driven, local investigative reporting – from educational inequity to lottery fraud to broken fire hydrants and many things in between.

Evan received an Associated Press award for Best Investigative Reporting in 2019 and was named runner-up by the AP for Best Reporter in the Virginias in 2020.

Prior to WVEC, Evan worked as a reporter in Macon, Georgia from 2016 to 2018.

Evan grew up in Kansas City and graduated from TCU in Fort Worth, Texas with majors in Journalism and Spanish & Hispanic Studies. He credits his grandfather, Ed Hundley, for sparking his interest in journalism, as his grandparents owned and operated a small radio station in Kansas – sharing the stories and news that the community needed to know.

He enjoys traveling, running, hiking and skiing and is excited to explore the Pacific Northwest. You’ll also find Evan playing golf and basketball. A big sports fan, Evan supports the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals and everything TCU Horned Frogs. He’s also a huge Tottenham Hotspur fan.
